From my fieldnotes (Kampala, 2015).
I spoke with a human rights lawyer.
█████ told me about other cases that have arisen. And someone was arrested for having lubricant in their bag a few years back.
“Lubricants are evidence that you’re gay” he told me. It’s “shameful to ask nurses” for lubricant. So some of the LGBT organizations pass out lubricants at meetings.
He told me that even with his girlfriend, when they were using a condom, he wanted to have lube. He felt they needed it.
But when he mentioned using lube she got concerned and asked him, “does this mean you’re gay?”
“She knew I worked with LGBT rights and got concerned because I wanted to use that stuff.”
