From my fieldnotes (Kampala, 2015).
█████ started talking about homosexuals seeking services at an HIV support organization.
There was one last week and “one was husband and one was the wife.”
The HIV counselor that was counseling them told the other interns to get out and to give them privacy. Typically interns are allowed to sit in the sessions like a fly on the wall to observe and learn counseling techniques—but not for this case.
█████ said about them seeking HIV services: “when they come here they have to be serious—so that people don’t recognize them [as gay].”
