March 16 -June 5: Photography by Keith King and I, which visually documents Uganda’s Transgender community and the perspective of queer refugees was on exhibit in Berlin, Germany. The exhibit, entitled “The Lightest Shade of Aflatoon” opened March 16, 7:00pm, at the Schwules Museum in Berlin, Germany. Please find more information here.
May 26-28, 2017: I will be presenting a paper with Richard Lusimbo at the World OutGames – Global Human Rights Conference in Miami. Our paper will focus on the politicization of homosexuality in Uganda’s media and politics.
December 2-3: I will be serving on a panel entitled “Surviving Toxic Law: Negotiating Gender and Sexual Non-Conformity in Iran and Uganda,” in the Feminisms Here and Now conference at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The paper I am presenting will focus specifically on transgender identity in Uganda.
November 7-December 24: Photography by Keith King and I, which visually documents Uganda’s Transgender community will be on exhibit in Munich, Germany. The exhibit, entitled “I am other” will open November 7, 7:30pm, at the Schwules Kommunikations-und Kulturzentrum Sub e.V. Gallery in Munich, Germany. Please find more information here.
September 6-December 12: Invited presentation on Uganda’s queer virtual culture at “Digital Publics and Counterpublics in Africa” at the 2016 African Studies Association-United Kingdom Conference at the University of Cambridge.
